RESPONSE TO COVID-19

To All our valued clients,
As news of the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to develop in our community, we are monitoring the situation closely. The health and well being of your pet is our top priority. At this time our hospital remains open and is operating with our regular business hours. But please check in regularly for updates, as this may change at any time.
We are wanting to keep you all informed of our current recommendations as well as the steps we are taking to continue offering you the care your pets need, while providing you and our team a safe environment.
For your safety, the safety of our staff, and the safety of our communities, we are having to change how we will be operating the hospital.
During this time, we are not having any clients come into the building, and will be utilizing our Personal Protective Equipment (caps, masks, gloves, overcoats) to assure as much protection is provided for you and for us.
***PLEASE BE AWARE, DUE TO THE INCREASED VOLUME OF PHONE CALLS/LINES NEEDED TO OPERATE AT THIS TIME, MANY OF OUR PHONE CALLS WILL BE COMING FROM A BLOCKED NUMBER. TO REDUCE DELAYS IN CARE, PLEASE BE SURE YOUR PHONE WILL ALLOW THESE CALLS TO BE ACCEPTED****
1. AFTER HOUR EMERGENCIES:
We will operate in the same manner as usual. Please call our hospital and follow the emergency information given.
2. EMERGENCIES DURING OFFICE HOURS :
If possible, please call us at 250-365-2344 to let us know you are on the way so we can be prepared to meet you upon your arrival at the hospital. When you arrive, please stay in your vehicle in our parking lot, call 250-365-2344 and we’ll come to you. If you do not have a phone or your pet’s emergency is immediately life threatening, please come to the front door and knock and a member of staff will assist you through the door.
3. Patients with SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS:

4. Patients WITHOUT scheduled appointments:
If you are coming to collect food or other items, please call us at 250-365-2344 on arrival in the parking lot. If you do not have a phone, please come to the front door and knock and a member of staff will assist you through the door. Or if you have already been given prior instructions follow those.
5. Surgical Patients:
We plan to keep our regular surgery schedule with protocols in place for minimal staff to client contact.
If you are sick, or experiencing flu-like symptoms (have a new cough, fever, shortness of breath) and have an appointment coming up, we please ask that you call and reschedule. If your pet is having a medical emergency or requires urgent care, please call ahead and inform our staff if you have travelled to high-risk areas, had any exposure to symptomatic or confirmed positive cases or have confirmed positive for COVID-19 yourself. Together we will determine the best method to ensure that your pet can receive the care it needs, while minimizing risk to our staff and other clients. These methods may include arranging for a trusted friend, neighbor or healthy family member to transport your pet to our hospital, and having one of our staff receive your pet directly from a vehicle, but please call ahead so we can make this decision based on the situation.
If you have travelled (anywhere) outside of the Kootenays, please inform us.
If you aren’t facing any of the risk factors listed above and are bringing your pet in, please try to limit 1 caretaker per appointment. If necessary we can speak with additional caregivers/clients over the phone during the appointment.
While we have always followed a rigorous cleaning protocol at our hospital, we have increased the frequency and the scope of hospital cleaning and disinfecting to help ensure everyone is kept safe. We are ensuring any surfaces that are contacted frequently (debit machines, door handles, etc.) are properly sanitized frequently throughout the day and after each appointment.
